Primary
Ages 7-11: My M&S History Mystery
Delve into the archive! Pupils use a variety of sources to find out more about the history of M&S and their local area. Piecing together the clues, they will create their own collage of life in the past.
Ages 7-11: Packet Perfect for the Planet
Pupils will design and make their own future-proof packaging inspired by our collection. Find out more about recycling and how to help save the planet.
Ages 4-11: Fair Trade Fabric
Pupils will use all their senses to find out about fabrics. Where do they come from? How are they made? What is Fair Trade and why is it important? Your class will work out the answers to these questions and many more during this hands-on, interactive workshop.
Ages 4-11: Colour, Shape and Texture
Pupils will hunt for colour, shape and texture in the Marks in Time exhibition, and find out how we communicate messages through design. They'll also design an M&S biscuit tin that customers won’t be able to resist.
Make a day of it and combine this workshop with a Colour, Shape and Texture in Art session at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery.Secondary
The Proof of the Pudding
Students will conduct a scientific exploration of the challenges and chemistry of the M&S Melting Middle Chocolate Pudding ... and yes, there will be a taste test!
Saving for the Future
Your class will find out about how materials decay, and how we slow down those processes. They’ll consider the value of different objects, and spark a heated debate about what should be saved from a burning building!
Two Men and a Five Pound Note
How does a business grow from a pedlar’s pack to a global high street institution? Using primary sources and business case studies, students will gain an understanding of enterprise in action.
A Living Archive
Gain firsthand insight into the life of a business archive. Students will meet the people that work here, find out about their career paths and hone their research skills using items from the collection. This workshop includes a guided tour of the M&S Company Archive repository.
